I'm a 39 year old woman and live in the U.S. I'm asexual and celibate and a white convert to Islam. This blog is a place for me to share information of interest on asexuality, LGBTQ issues, queer Muslim topics, feminism, and other subjects I think are worthwhile.

Commenting as I watch.
“It’s called being a woman every three and a half weeks! It’s a wonderful way to get out of an obligation.”
GOOD JOB BRINGING SEXISM INTO IT, THANKS FOR THAT.Actually, good job in general turning a discussion of asexuality into a carnival of sex negativity and grossness. Thanks.
“The most boring beer commercials ever.” Because that’s all sex is about. Selling shit.
It’s not about discrimination, it’s about visibility and recognition — they’re two different things.“Can we, like, after a while, just stop recognizing things?”
Thanks. Thank you. Much appreciated. Good job. Wow. NO.
Recognition is about being able to discuss your sexuality without having to explain it from the ground up every time, without having to field naive or misguided assumptions about what your sexuality implies about you as a person, without having to wonder if the people around you are going to judge you or laugh at you or pity you or tell you you are sick just because you are coming to them with something they haven’t seen before. It’s about being able to discuss your sexuality with a therapist without having it become the focus of your therapy, at the expense of the issues that are important to you. It’s about being able to discuss your sexuality without fearing that you will be made to feel inferior, inadequate, ill, childish, or stupid, without fearing that you will be silenced and excluded. For some people, it’s about being able to discuss your sexuality without fear of being fucking raped because someone thinks they can “cure” you.
”You gotta wonder what do they want, and then you gotta ask yourself, what are they not getting?”
REVOLUTIONARY IDEA what if you ask /them/ what they want??
But then I guess you’d be in danger of actually learning something.P.S. I’m not signing the petition…it’s a nice idea, but I have a feeling if Fox News really interviewed an asexual person it would just be a fucking trainwreck of stereotypes and invalidation.
Good commentary. I’m usually not a big fan of petitions as I don’t think they’re very effective. Especially when the target is a company like Fox News. They’re not going to change, and we know it. However, I think the “ask” in the petition is reasonable and that they need to hear from us and know that the asexual community can and will respond to media misrepresentation as other groups do.
